Conte hints that Miazga could leave Chelsea on loan
The American defender could move away from Stamford Bridge to get more game time as the Blues chase reinforcements at the back
Matt Miazga could be heading for a loan move away from Chelsea, with Antonio Conte stressing the importance of playing time for a footballer of his age.
The 20-year-old centre back has struggled to make an impact so far at Chelsea and has only played one minute in pre-season under his new manager despite joining the entire tour of Austria and the USA.
Antonio Conte had an open training session in Minneapolis ahead of the International Champions Cup match with AC Milan and hinted at a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge.
"I think in this moment it is good if he plays to improve, to go and get experience to improve," Conte said. "You can improve only if you play. You play every game or a lot of games during the season. But he is a good guy and I am very happy about him.
"Miazga is a young player, he has a good technique and I think that he is working very well under the physical aspect, but the tactical aspect he can improve a lot and I think that he is improving with the work."
Michael Hector has returned from his loan spell at Reading and climbed above Miazga in the pecking order at Chelsea, with John Terry, Gary Cahill, Kurt Zouma and Branislav Ivanovic all competing in his position.
Miazga has been involved in a lot media activity during the tour, with his club likely waiting until after the ICC has finished before finding him a loan move.
Chelsea are in pursuit of defensive reinforcements, with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly at the top of Conte's shortlist ahead of the new season.
