Wenger's contract reward for Rosicky
Arsene Wenger is "absolutely adamant" Tomas Rosicky has to stay an Arsenal player and has convinced the club to extend his contract.
The manager says an announcement on a new one-year deal - which will reportedly include an option to extend for a further 12 months - is imminent after a verbal agreement was reached with the 33-year-old.
Rosicky would have become a free agent in the summer but Wenger claims he is vital to Arsenal's title-chasing team.
Tomas will stay," Wenger said of the player he signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2006. "We have an agreement with him and it will come out soon. I am absolutely adamant he has to stay at the club.
"He is maybe one of the players who plays the game of give and move, is a great accelerator of the game," added Wenger. "When the ball comes to him, [he has a] second gear now and that is something I admire in him.
"He always makes things happen, not with individual dribbling but with individual acceleration of his passing and of his runs.
"When he arrived here he was less a tactical player and more the 'Mozart from Prague' and he was purely creative, offensive player. Today he is a real organiser on the pitch as well. I like to have him in the team because he gives a real structure to our team."
Rosicky seldom grabs the spotlight at Arsenal but he scored a fine goal in the side's 4-1 dismantling of Sunderland last Saturday.
Jack Wilshere insists his team-mate is one of the best midfielders in the world "when it comes to passing and movement" and will be key to the club's push for silverware.
"We have some big games coming up," Wilshere said. "We [need to] continue with the same work ethic off the ball, try to win it back straight away and press them.
"You see the best teams in the world like Barcelona and Bayern Munich do that and we have to try to do that as well, because when we get in their half we have the players to hurt them."
