Goal was 'vital' for Galatasaray ahead of Chelsea trip - Chedjou

Goal was 'vital' for Galatasaray ahead of Chelsea trip - ChedjouGalatasaray defender Aurelien Chedjou believes his equalising goal against Chelsea has kept his side's hopes of reaching the last eight of the Champions League alive.

Jose Mourinho's side struck an early goal through Fernando Torres, but the home side rallied after the interval and the 28-year-old stole in to divert home Wesley Sneijder's corner to ensure level pegging at 1-1 ahead of the second leg.

"We played against one of Europe's most prestigious teams," Chedjou told Uefa.com after the match.

"It was a very difficult match. The goal was vital for us. The return leg will be very difficult. We still have a chance. That goal will keep our hopes alive."

Midfielder Selcuk Inan thinks his side responded well after struggling in the first 45 minutes at the Turk Telekom Arena, but was frustrated not to be taking a victory back to Stamford Bridge for the second leg.

"We knew it would be a very difficult match," he said. "We could not play the way we wanted in the first half but we recovered in the second. We would have very much liked to go to London with a victory but that did not happen."
