'PSG should have spent David Luiz money on Di Maria' - Moutier

'PSG should have spent David Luiz money on Di Maria' - Moutier
The club's former director Jean-Michel Moutier has criticised their transfer business so far this summer and feels the lack the quality to win the Champions League
Paris Saint-Germain should have signed Angel Di Maria rather than David Luiz, sporting director Jean-Michel Moutier believes, who believes they will struggle to make it far in the Champions League this year.

The Parc des Princes outfit spent big to lure David Luiz away from Chelsea at the start of the summer transfer window, but were then forced to pull out of the race to sign Di Maria due to financial reasons, with the Argentine now set to leave Real Madrid for Manchester United.

Moutier says PSG's transfer policy has been questionable this summer and feels their chances in Europe may suffer because of it.

"They say that PSG have had a successful transfer market so far if you bear Financial Fair Play in mind, but I'm still convinced that they spent their €60 million transfer kitty rather quickly on David Luiz," Moutier told Sportmasta.

"I wonder whether they would have been better off waiting for a bit and then signing Di Maria instead.

"I am also sceptical that David Luiz really is a defender. It's telling that Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez played him in midfield at Chelsea.

"I think the signing of David Luiz and Serge Aurier is enough for them to win the Ligue 1 title again, but it will not get them to the Champions League final."

Paris Saint-Germain currently sit sixth in Ligue 1 with five points from three games.
