Rajiv Ouseph pulled off a shock victory over China's Du Pengyu to book
his place in the second round of the All England Open.
England's Ouseph, ranked 20th in the world, beat
seventh seed Du 21-16 11-21 21-14 at the National Indoor Arena in
Birmingham.
He will meet Japan's world number 15 Kento Momota in round two on Thursday.
English duo Chris and Gabby Adcock beat Indonesia's Irfan Fadhilah and Weni Angrainni in the mixed doubles.
The husband-and-wife pairing won 21-9 17-21 21-14 and will face German pair Peter Kaesbauer and Isabel Herttrich in the second round.
Chris Adcock also partnered Andy Ellis in an 18-21 21-13 22-20 win over Chinese Taipei's Liang Jui Wei and Liao Kuan Hao in the men's doubles first round.
Gabby Adcock played alongside Lauren Smith to prevail 21-17 13-21 21-15 at the expense of Dutch pair Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek in the women's doubles first round.
Chris Langridge and Peter Mills beat qualifiers Marcus Ellis and Tom Wolfenden 21-15 21-16 in an all-English men's double clash.
