England winger Andros Townsend believes that his side "held their own" against Germany despite losing 1-0 at Wembley.Per Mertesacker headed the only goal towards the end of the first half and the Three Lions were unable to summon a shot on target in response, falling to their second consecutive home defeat.
But Townsend told reporters: "For us to hold our own and only lose 1-0 and outplay them for large parts is a positive.
"We have experimented with teams over the last few games, so I think the manager is happy with us.
"It was a positive performance and a chance for us to test ourselves against one of the favourites for the World Cup and I think we held our own but we couldn't get that breakthrough in the final third.
"That was the only thing that let us down."
