Football.Sherwood keen to make immediate impact at Tottenham

Sherwood keen to make immediate impact at TottenhamThe technical co-ordinator has been promoted following Andre Villas-Boas' dismissal and he hopes to guide Spurs into the Capital One Cup semi-finals with a victory over West Ham
Tim Sherwood hopes to make an immediate impact when he takes charge of Tottenham's first team againstWest Ham in the Capital One Cup.

Andre Villas-Boas was relieved of his duties on Monday and the north London club confirmed later in the day that Sherwood, development coach Chris Ramsey and striker coach Les Ferdinand would take charge for the foreseeable future.

Sportmasta understands Sherwood will be offered the job permanently if he impresses as interim manager
, and the 44-year-old is keen to kick-start his new role by guiding Spurs into the semi-finals.

"Obviously when you lose your manager it's a change and they've got to listen to a different voice now," he toldSpurs TV.

"I'm hoping to get a few messages across in a short space of time so we can get a positive result against West Ham."

Goals from Winston Reid, Ricardo Vaz Te and Ravel Morrison condemned Spurs to a shock 3-0 loss to West Ham in October, and Sherwood is keen for the squad to learn from their past mistakes.

He continued: "It's a huge game, especially on the back of [the defeat at White Hart Lane] a month or so ago, it was disappointing.

"We have to get out there on the front foot and have to impose ourselves on them as soon as we can during the game. We'll have to be patient, they got bodies behind the ball and tried to catch us on the counterattack.

"We just hope that we can impose ourselves on them nice and early, get the crowd behind us, and really be up and at them."

Tottenham are yet to keep a clean sheet during December, conceding 10 goals in five games, and with Michael Dawson and Paulinho suspended, Sherwood is keen for the fringe players to impress.

"In defensive areas we're quite light, but it's up to them boys to step up to the mark and perform well for the club and for themselves," he said.
