Premier League spending tops £1bn mark for first time ever

Paul Pogba: Midfielder involved in long-running transfer saga
Premier League clubs have smashed through the £1billion spending barrier this summer – the first time the figure has ever been achieved in one window.
Bankrolled by the huge new television deal, worth an estimated £5.2bn over three years, Premier League clubs have bought freely this summer with no less than 11 teams smashing their transfer records.
Manchester United’s £89million world record signing of midfielder Paul Pogba remains easily the biggest fee of the window, but several of their rivals have not been afraid to spend big with rivals Manchester City capturing defender John Stones for £47.5m.
The figure is set to climb even further on Wednesday with the transfer window closing at 11pm BST.
