Murray has slipped to 10th in the world rankings - his lowest position for six
years - following his quarter-final exit at Wimbledon.
The Scot, 27, was ranked fifth ahead of Wimbledon, where his defence of the men's singles title was ended by Grigor Dimitrov in the last eight.
The last time Murray was ranked so low was after Wimbledon in 2008, when he also exited in the quarter-finals.
Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic has replaced Rafael Nadal at number one.
Djokovic, 27, beat Roger Federer in five sets to secure his second title at SW19, having lost to Murray in last year's final.
Federer, 32, is back up to third and is once again the Swiss number one ahead of Stan Wawrinka, who is fourth in the rankings.
British number one Murray has not beaten a top-10 player since his win over Djokovic at Wimbledon, but missed three months at the end of last year after back surgery.
