Shooting Stars 1-0 Enyimba: Ajani gives Oluyole Warriors relegation boost

.
The Oluyole Warriors’ relegation battle got a boost having silenced Paul Aigbogun’s men in Ibadan
Ibrahim Ajani's first half goal helped Shooting Stars beat Enyimba 1-0 to boost their hopes of avoiding the drop and ensured Ikorodu United remain rooted at the base of the Nigeria Professional Football League table.
The hosts were the better side for long periods at the Lekan Salami Stadium but had to wait till the final whistle to ensure victory was certain.
After losing 3-1 to Lobi Stars in their last outing – with fellow relegation strugglers Ikorodu United going head-to head with Akwa United, Gbenga Ogunbote’s knew they had an opportunity to put pressure on their rivals for the drop with a positive result.
But there was little sense of urgency from the hosts as Enyimba, confident following a 0-0 draw against Rivers United last time out, had the better of the first-half chances - Etor Daniel failing to punish the hosts’ shaky defence.
It proved a costly miss as Ajani slid the first shot on target of the match past goalkeeper Moses Ocheje to break the deadlock in the 23rd minute.
Paul Aigbogun’s men failed to test Fabiyi Emmanuel before the final whistle, meaning Shooting Stars are four points away from safety.
